There are many upcoming movies worth your time and attention that are planning to stream late this year during the winter season.
We have already received an epic-scale blockbuster film “Dune: Part Two” but hold your seat tight as there are many small films that are going to deliver a huge impact on the viewing experience despite having a small budget compared to the big names If we talk about some of the best films, we have received so far in 2024, then the list goes as;
Challengers
Luca Guadagnino’s new film which reflects the tennis love triangle is a treat to watch this year. If I ask you to remember any film which has been in talks with tennis being the main focus of the story, you will hardly recall any, but now we have a winner. Starring Mike Faist, Josh O’Connor & Zendaya, a sports, romantic, comedy drama-based film with a runtime of 2hr 11mins, where they manage to make tennis look hot while reflecting their romance into athletic competition is really appreciable.
The story of the film shows how Tashi, a tennis prodigy turned into a coach, has transformed her husband from an average player to a world-class grand slam champion. Even the performance delivered by each cast is a treat to watch.
Alam
The Arabic translation of this word is for the banner. A film that reflects the story of a group of middle-class Palestinian students living in Israel, battling with romance, authority, politics and much more which eventually led up to Israel’s Independence Day. With the tension going on between Palestine and Israel, it’s extremely hard to take up a point and show a story around it but Firaz Khoury has done a great job here.
Not everyone sees the fact that there are some Palestinians as well who are living in Israel, although they have a Palestinian neighbourhood, going to schools with Palestinian teachers but at the end of the day, they’re taught Israeli history, seen from Israel’s perspective, all under an Israeli flag. Imagine learning about Israel’s battle for independence which is actually a catastrophe for them, when they lost their families in 1948, commonly termed as Nakba in Arabic.

The story and the screenplay of the film truly deserve applause. The story of the film revolves around these kids who live with their family and teacher in Israel and want to keep their hands clean but as there are battles waged off, their homeland seems abstract to them but they got nothing to do in that but still manages to leave a mesmerizing effect on the viewers.
The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed
A story of a Brooklyn woman, Ann which is performed by Joanna Arnow who has also done her directorial debut with this film with a great comedy. In the film, Ann’s faces humiliation in her entire life where she is in a submissive dominance relationship with an older man whose is not much bothered regarding her needs and sows reluctant towards it. She regularly has awkward conversations with her parents, who roles are played by her real parents.
Apart from her love life, her work life also sucks. She is being completely ignored by her colleagues in the office even though she has been awarded for her work. The film tries to show the authentic taste of modern life in an entertaining way. This movie seems to be a good start for her directorial career.
Civil War
Alex Garland’s new film, ‘Civil War’ has tried to show the present situation of America in a different version where we can see multiple armed forces and political faces which has fractured the US. The film tries to show America as a battlefield where smoke rises within the city, highways are filled with wrecked cars, suicide bombers dive into a crowd lined up for water rations, snipers, death squads and mass graves which can be seen in many places.
The question that the story tries to raise is how we got into this. What made us fight over each other is that the situation is worsening day by day. The film also tries to depict the generic American behaviour towards any international conflicts, be it Vietnam, Gaza, Lebanon or the former Yugoslavia or Iraq, there are a lot of conflicts which has happened recently but it doesn’t feel so much yet, and that’s exactly what the film tries to ask, that why aren’t we feeling anything towards these conflicts. It’s time to think, it’s time to understand what needs to be done and how it can be achieved.
In Flames
Directed by Zarrar Khan, the film revolves around the life story of a young woman from Karachi. Her father died recently after which her life changed completely. From having a protective shade to men staring at her, attacking her. From getting valued to getting ignored, her world changes.
This could be Pakistan’s best film in the horror genre. She has been shown as both, victim and prey where a promising relationship comes to an end. She starts losing her mind and finds difficulty in differentiating between reality and illusion. Watching the film delivers both supernatural shocks as well as real-life terrors.
