Bodkin Episode 5 Recap and Explained

Bodkin Episode 5 Recap and Explained: Netflix presents seven episodic crime thriller drama series called ‘Bodkin’. The limited series revolves around a place called Bodkin from Ireland. The plot happens around three podcasters re-investigating a twenty-year-old missing case. Things get pretty bad for the podcasters when the residents deny cooperating with them for the podcast.

Episode 5 begins with Seamus looking at the bodies. After a detailed evaluation, Seamus confirms that the second body is not Fiona’s. Seamus explains that one of the teeth was removed during Fiona’s school days, on that body, the teeth set is complete. After that, Seamus takes Gilbert to find out more truths about Fiona’s disappearance. That night, Seamus meets an old friend and asks permission to meet their leader.

The man arranges a meeting with the leader, and Seamus takes Gilbert to meet the leader. During their travel, Seamus explains everything to Gilbert, in the past, he and his brother Malachy stole some explosives from the McCardle brothers. After the prison release, the McCardle brothers searched for Seamus.

In the past, Seamus killed one of the gangsters and fled to Bodkin. Considering all these past, Seamus thinks that the McCardle brothers have something to do with the disappearance of Fiona. Seamus tells Gilbert to go inside the garage to meet the leader. Gilbert goes inside and does some normal talks, the leader lady takes her gun outside to shoot Gilbert. Through the backdoor, Seamus comes inside with a gun and enquires about Fiona. The leader lady confirms that none of their gang members knows about Fiona. Later, Seamus and Gilbert go back to Bodkin. During their journey, they see Dove falling from a tree to a narrow road.

Gilbert rushes from the car and tries to help her stand up. They start having arguments about the findings. Unexpectedly, Seamus hears them mentioning the name of Sergeant Power. Dove explains to him that, the bodies were found in Sergeant Power’s car, and they also found a knife of Teddy in the car. Seamus gets pretty angry at Sergeant Power and Gilbert for hiding the secrets from him. Seamus takes his car with the car to interrogate Sergeant Power.

At the hospital, Sergeant Power is in bed, Seamus comes in suddenly and points out his gun towards Power. He confesses everything that, Malachy stole his car that day and Teddy has nothing to do with the car crash. He also adds that he didn’t tell anyone about his car for twenty years.

Gilbert is also present at the hospital when Sergeant Power confesses everything. Seamus gets angry once again because he couldn’t find out what happened to Fiona. He suddenly grabs Gilbert and beats him on the floor. Gilbert seems terrified after the unexpected behavioural changes in Seamus. Suddenly his wife calls on the phone in front of Seamus, she informs him that she’s on her way to meet him. Later, inside the car, Seamus tells Gilbert about a past event related to the McCardle. He and Malachy stole their explosives after the McCardle brothers were sent to prison. When the gangsters were released, one of them came after Seamus.

Seamus killed him and then fled to Bodkin to hide out. But now he wants to see the McCardle family because he thinks they might know about Fiona. The next scene starts from a flashback portion where Dove and Mary spend time in a pub. Both were pretty much drunk and Dove started singing in front of everyone. After the party, they start kissing and go out to get some air. Later, Sergeant Powers enters the bar and abuses Dove, she attacks him with her findings.

She explains to him that she knows about the car and Teddy’s knife. Sergeant Powers gets shocked and collapses inside the bar. The next day, Dove wakes up at Mary’s house and meets her daughter. Mary and Dove had an argument, then Dove left the house alone. During her walk, she finds her phone in the middle of the road.

Dove suddenly climbs to the nearest tree and falls down. Meanwhile, Seamus and Gilbert meet her and she throws him the information about Sergeant power. After the conversation, Dove visits Sergeant Powers at the hospital. He confesses everything from that day. He tried to help Malachy and Fiona to leave Bodkin that day, but only Malachy showed up. When he looked for them, he saw Teddy with a brick covered in blood.

Sergeant Powers thought Teddy killed Malachy due to the affair with Fiona. Sergeant Powers tried to dump the body on his car, but at the same time, they hit a traveller woman. Sergeant Powers dumped her body along with Malachy in his car.

Sergeant Powers begs Dove to make it a secret from Seamus to protect his son Teddy. In a flashback portion, Emmy is having a good time with Fintan at the pub, she witnesses Dove’s singing. She gets mad at her for not respecting her professionally. Emmy takes her coat and on the way home, she throws it into a tree. In the present day, Emmy wakes up on a bed at Fintan’s house. Later, she goes to the autopsy lab and finds out the second body’s name.

The three of them meet at the place where Greta, the deceased traveller stays. At the end of the episode, the podcasters find out that Fiona is pregnant. On the other hand, Seamus gets burned inside his boat while on a call with Sean. The overall fifth episode was well scripted. The screenplay treatment was totally different from all other episodes.

The ending twists were unexpected and interesting. Some things missed proper details and hope they will explain it in the next episodes.
