Garouden The Way of the Lone Wolf Review: Netflix presents “Garouden: The Way of The Lone Wolf” an action martial arts Japanese anime in eight episodes. Juzo Fujimaki is a fugitive hunted by the police authorities. While hiding he was invited to fight the biggest fighters around the world in a tournament named “KODUKU” conducted by the underworld mafia.
At the same time, another tournament was getting ready to select the strongest man in the world conducted by Shozan Matsuo who is the head of Hokushinkans. As more men come opposite to Juzo Fujimaki things get tough for him to compete while dealing with the police.
This anime is based on Baku Yumemakura’s Garouden novel and directed by Atsushi Ikariya. This anime has around 8 episodes with 24 minutes of runtime per episode. Unlike other Japanese animes, as this anime is a Netflix original series, so they did dub at the same time in many languages. Also, the English dub was really good comparing usual dubs. The anime has that dark and green tone throughout the episodes.
The creator took a long plot and made it in a small runtime. Usually, anime has more episodes with fewer runtimes. And they usually have better character development and story development when the episode passes by. As they don’t rush that easily. But this anime has a rushed screenplay.

The anime started in a rushed way too. They didn’t give many details about the main character Juzo Fujimaki. All of a sudden they started showing the hero without a proper backstory. The police officer who was searching for him for 7 years seems illogical at times if we think more. Spending a lot of money on a person who did a crime years ago and not giving a proper reason for his obsession with that guy. The anime lacked many details about the lead characters. There were no flashback scenes about what really was Juzo Fujimaki, how strong he was or what he did when he was an apprentice of Master Izumi.
The creator tried to forcefully make the character into the fightings. There is no proper character developments in it. Usually, animes are good at character development, but this anime lacks it. It looked like the creator want to finish the story very fast way. Apart from story details if we come to the technical side the animation was good. But sometimes we get confused of the character faces as they show some similarities in looks. The music was not upto the mark, but the making styles were good. The action scenes were good in this anime. There are many such good moments in action.
The main lead Juzo Fujimaki’s voiceover was given by Ryouta Takeuchi which was really good. The voice artists did their job very well. The characters had apt voice actors and modulations. Even though the anime was rushed there were no boring scenes or dull moments. This anime is good if you want a small series for time pass. But if you want a best series in this action genre you will get disappointed. But there are no dull or lag moments so it will be a good watch. I won’t say it best nor a bad one, i liked it as a short-watch anime without giving it more thinking.
I rate this Japanese anime a 2.5 out of 5.
