Alien Romulus: The recently released science fiction horror film, ‘Alien: Romulus’ is an American film directed and written by Fede Alvarez along with Rodo Sayagues. This film is the 7th instalment in the list of Alien characters which started in the year 1979. Originally, this series had only 4 films: Alien which got released in 1979, then ‘Aliens’ which premiered in 1986, then we had the third part in 1992- Alien 3 and finally the fourth part came in theatres in the year 1997 with the name, ‘Alien Resurrection’.
In all these parts, the story of these films revolved around fights between the lead protagonist and Aliens. Ellen Louise Ripley, performed by American actress Sigourney Weaver played the role of a lead protagonist who was a fictional character and due to her stellar performance, her character was considered as one of the greatest characters in the history of the science-fiction film genre.
After these, two prequel series were released, one in 2012 with the name ‘Prometheus’ and another in 2017 with the name ‘Alien: Covenant’. And now we have the 7th part of this franchise with the name, ‘Alien: Romulus’.

The cast of Alien Romulus
The main cast of this film is Cailee Spaeny, an American actress performing the character of Rain, an orphaned miner, then we have David Jonsson, a British actor, and writer as Andy who plays the role of Rain’s brother. Andy is actually a programmed android created by Rain’s father to accompany Rain on her journey. We also have Archie James Renaux, more commonly known as Arche Renaux, as Tyler who played the role of Rain’s ex-boyfriend and Kay’s brother and Isabela as Kay.
The villain of the film, ‘Xenomorph’ is portrayed by Trevor Newline and the human-Xenomorph hybrid is portrayed by Robert Bobroczkyi. With its stellar performance and intriguing plot, the film has captured many eyeballs and has been in talks across the globe. If we look as a whole, then this entire franchise has captivated the audience for the past 4 decades.
Plot of ‘Alien Romulus’
The story of this film stands as a link between its first and second parts which are Alien and Aliens which were released in 1979 and 1986 respectively. The story takes the viewers to imagine a distant future where humans have colonized several plants across the galaxy. A group of settlers are trying to start a new life on a planet named ‘Romulus’ which is away from the dangers existing on Earth. While they are planning to start their journey, they encounter Xenomorph, the main villain of the story. Xenomorph is an alien who has a strong lethal capability along with his terrifying look. He starts to kill them one by one as they try to figure out a way for their survival before its too late. The theme of this movie revolves around survival, danger and the unknown since its inception.

Overall, this film has gained good support and love from the viewers. It has received positive feedback from both the critics and the audience. Sci-Fi genre fans were eagerly waiting for another part of Alien and they were also appreciating Fede Alvarez’s direction which made this film a perfect return to its franchise. He has really taken good care of the storyline, cast performances, and gripping scenes ensuring to engages the viewers more and more. This film also shows the future course of humans who are tied to play with the force beyond their control.

Well, the film seems to be hitting high nodes at the box office with solid revenue on its opening day. Although it can’t be termed as a record-breaking blockbuster it still manages to be a great success based on the collection figures. This film has a total runtime of 119 mins and was released in Los Angeles on 12th Aug 2024 whereas it premiered in the US on 16th Aug with a total budget of $80 million. Since, it’s just the first week of its release, to finally conclude if ‘Alien: Romulus’ will be just a success or a super hit film, we need to wait for a few more days to have the final numbers with us.
