‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’: An American science fiction action adventurous film written by Josh Friedman and directed by Wes Ball has been doing quite well in the box office overtaking ‘The Fall’ and ‘Challengers’. The first sequel of this film, ‘ War for the Planet of the Apes was released in 2017 and now this film takes place 300 years after the war and revolves around a young chimpanzee named Noa and a human named Mae who will be deciding the course of Human and Apes relation here onwards.
The film has made its mark at the box office with an opening of $56.5M domestically in the US and $72.5 in overseas summing up to $129 globally making it the 2nd best debut of the series. No doubt, the film has brought heat to the box office in the early summer.
As of now, we can see good support from the audience and by chance if these numbers stick with the film for another weekend then undoubtedly the overall series will be ranked as the 2nd best launch in North America.
If we look into the box office numbers of the first film of this summer 2024 – ‘The Fall Guy’, it had a great start but the preceding weekend felt low. Based on the start, it was expected that the film would make around $32-$35M range but unfortunately, it went off track and the numbers look far.
Talking about the initial review of the film ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’, it has received a B rating by CinemaScore from audiences although the makers seem less concerned about this rating and believe that eventually the film will be receiving great support from the moviegoers.
As of now, the film is doing great business in Imax and other premium formats as collectively they account for 41% of the opening gross. In this latest sequel, we can see Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Kevin Durand & William H. Macy in the lead roles where a group of young apes starts questioning the authority rules for the ape who has taken the place of Caesar. They build close bonds with humans.
This week, after ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ holding the 1st rank at the box office, ‘The Fall Guy’ held the 2nd place as more young females like the rom-com action film whereas Zendaya-starring Challengers under the banner of Amazon MGM Studios is holding the 3rd spot No. 3 in its 3rd weekend.
