Breathless Season 2 Release Date: A coming-of-age medical drama, Netflix’s new Spanish-language miniseries Breathless, or Respira explores themes of romance, melodrama, thrill and suspense. Tracing the lives of doctors and their interns at Valencia’s Joaquín Sorolla Public Hospital, this 8-part series unfolds many character arcs and plotlines in its first season.
But, whether it continues to retain all of them is the ultimate concern for viewers. The final episode ends with many major plotholes which have no outlet for resolution. While there has been no news of either a renewal or cancellation, audiences await answers to questions episode 8 posed but didn’t resolve.
Nearing the end of the episode, President Patricia Segura’s surgery is a success. However, the cancer in her body remains. While her oncologist Dr Néstor Moa does prescribe a risky surgery he is willing to supervise, she opts for an expensive and exclusive chemotherapy by a private hospital.
Episode Recaps: Breathless Episode 4 : Recap & Explained
The condition for securing the chemotherapy, we are made aware is that upon the privatization of Joaquín Sorolla Public Hospital, the doctor offering the chemo would become the head of public hospitals. While Dr Moa isn’t aware of this scheme, the question that their newly blossoming love story stands hanging remains.
Dr Pilar Amaro’s son Óscar’s drug addiction is also a subplot which remains unexplored. While he does return to the hospital, to his mother, his treatment and further complications that arise in his relationship with Enrique are left as it is.
The character of May, who volunteers to help during the blackout and returns to find her child disappeared is also left hanging. She suspects the kidnapping to be the work of Rucío, her ex-girlfriend who broke up with her days before giving birth. As May forbids Rucío from coming in contact with the child, it is assumed that she is the one behind the sudden disappearance, but no resolution is explored.
Lastly, as Biel de Felipe and Dr Jéssica’s romance finally makes progress, it is interrupted by Lluís, her boyfriend. As director of the hospital, he threatens Biel’s job, but the latter is unfazed by the prospect, blinded by his love for Jéssica. However, the next time he sees her, she is lying flat on the ground, screaming in pain and bleeding to death due to the attack by the suicide victim she helped save. While a shocked Biel calls out for security, the audience is given no explanation as to whether she survives or not.
