Menendez brothers Case: Netflix’s new series ‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’ has brought the brother again into the limelight. As we all know, this show is based on true events. Lyle and Erik killed their parents, Jose and Kitty in 1989 by firing through shotguns.

This incident took place on 20th August 1989 when Jose and Kitty were resting on a couch and Lyle and Erik came to him firing bullets at them. Lyle Menendez was born on January 10th, 1968 so he was 21 years old when he killed them. And Erik Menendez was three years younger than Lyle. Born on 27th November 1970, Erik was 18 years old while killing Jose and Kitty.

What happened after the killings?

After their parents’ death, Lyle and Erik appeared to be spending money on a luxurious lifestyle and buying expensive watches and clothes. They thought they were never going to get caught but things turned against them when Dr Oziel’s extramarital affair went to the police informing them about Erik confessing to the killing in therapy sessions and also about the audio tapes of those confessions.

Where are the Menendez brothers now?

The Menendez brothers are serving their life sentences without the possibility of payroll. At first, both brothers were kept at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego, California till the time they were not convicted. After the conviction of the murders, they got separated in 1996 and Lyle was sent to Mule Creek State Prison in Northern California. Lyle repeatedly requested to be transferred closer to his brother Erik. Finally, on 22 Feb 2018, Lyle was moved from Mule Creek Prison to RJ Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego, California.

On 4th April 2018, after years of separation, the Menendez brothers reunited when they both got moved to the same unit. When they gate opened, Journalist Robert Rand was there to witness this moment. Once the brothers saw each other, they both burst into tears and hugged each other for a while without sharing a word. They were even allowed to spend an hour together in a room by
the officials.

When Lyle and Erik appeared in the court for their second trial on Oct 11, 1995, Judge Stanley Weisberg was the only judge taking decision on the case. Telecast of the proceeding were also stopped by him.
