Directed by Jaume Colet- Serra and released on July 2009, this film is based on mystery, family, horror and thriller where a couple, Kate performed by Vera Farmiga & John Coleman performed by Peter Sarsgaard has lost their baby and then get out of that trauma, they are planning to adopt a 9 yrs old orphan Esther performed by Isabelle Fuhrman.
Initially, upon adoption, they fell in love with her but the story demands something else. With a total runtime of 105 minutes, this psychological horror movie is a classic tale where orphan and terror are combined. Upon release, this film was a great success among the youth hence I would not like to miss on this in the top 10 list of horror films.
The Strangers (2008)
Although the film has gained only 6 points in the IMDb rating the screenplay of the story is really amazing. Directed and written by Scott Speedman with him being in the main role. It’s a story of a young couple who plans to spend their vacation together encounter a tragic night when 3 masked strangers knock at their door in the mid the night followed by a brutal invasion by them.
No doubt, Scott has done a great job with the screenplay as this violent story has the potential to hold a scary grip on you throughout the film. It is one heck of a film which you would not want to miss out on unless you are in need of a peaceful sleep.
Evil Dead Rise (2023)
Directed by Lee Cronin with Mirabai Pease, Richard Crouchley, Lily Sullivan and Alyssa Sutherland in the main role, this film was released on 21st April 2023 with a total screen time of 1 hr 37 mins. This is the 5th part of the ‘Evil Dead’ franchise. This film tells the story of two sisters who have been fighting for their survival against the rising demonic army.
The two sisters are Beth performed by Lily Sullivan and Ellie, performed by Alyssa Sutherland who has delivered a great performance that you would definitely wanna watch.
Hereditary (2018)
This horror, psychological and supernatural film tells the story of a couple, Annie and Steve have this feeling that their family may be haunted which quickly escalates and takes unpredicted turns. Directed by Ari Aster with Toni Collette, Gabriel Byrne, Alex Wolff, Milly Shapiro, Zachary Arthur and Ann Dowd as cast with a total runtime of 2 hrs 7 mins.
This film has great cinematography with stunning performance of the lead role done by Toni Collette has taken the show to greater heights declaring it as the biggest snubbed performance done that year in the Academy Awards show.
The Witch (2015)
Directed by Robert Eggers and released on 27th January 2015, this film marks a great collaboration between him and an 18-year-old Anya Taylor-Joy in the main role. The overall story of the film is set in the 1630s with a total runtime of 92 mins. Along with Anya in the main role, we can also admire Ralph Ineson, Kate Dickie, Harvey Scrimshaw, Ellie Grainger and Lucas Dawson in the supporting role.
The story shows how a Puritan family tries to stay with their beliefs and encounters many terrifying supernatural occurrences which reflects the intensity of witchcraft and black magic gripping slowly. It shows the slow mental torture being done to the family by the witch which takes your breath away and at the same time it becomes unbearable to watch such circumstances. The Conjuring (2013)

The story of the film revolves around a family whose new house holds many dark secrets which unfold one after another. They started noticing unusual activities which kept growing due to which they started encountering too many disturbances in their usual life.
The family tries a lot to ignore those activities giving a clear hint that the house is a house but soon those activity intensifies and becomes extremely difficult for the family to handle it. The overall story of the film is emotionally gripping and terrifying at the same time which will keep you on the edge of your seat through the movie. Eraserhead (1977)
