Where Is Sherri Papini Now In 2024?: This incident happened on 2 November 2016, when Sherri’s husband, Keith, returned home from his office and found that his wife was not at home. He tried calling her multiple times, but Sherri wasn’t answering, and she also didn’t pick up their young children from the daycare.
By using the ‘Find My Location’ app to locate his wife’s iPhone, he found it on a road close to their house in Redding, California. He immediately called the police helpline number, 911, informing them that his 34-year-old wife was missing since she was jogging.
When everyone was worried about where is Sherri Papini, she reappeared on a highway in California in 2016, claiming two women kidnaped her for three weeks. She even claimed that she was chained up and beaten by her kidnappers who never showed their faces. The authorities tried all their ways to find out about the kidnappers, but they couldn’t track anything which made them suspicious of Papini’s story. The trust came out in 2022 when police arrested her on suspicion of lying to a federal officer. For 18 months, she was sent to jail and her husband also filed a divorce.

There was even a campaign going on to organize thousands of dollars to help them with the search effort, and even her family put up a five-figure reward for her return. In the early hours of Thanksgiving Day, which was the 22nd day since she vanished, Sherri reappeared. She told officers that she had been held captive by two Hispanic women and was physically abused by them. Police started investigating deeper into her disappearance and started getting this feeling that her story was a pack of lies. The main evidence came to light when the officers matched the DNA found on the clothes she was wearing at the time she reappeared on the highway to an ex-boyfriend of hers named James Reyes.
While interacting with Reyes, police discovered that she had been voluntarily staying with Reyes in Costa Mesa, California, some 600 miles from Redding for 3 weeks, which she turned into a kidnapping story. Reyes informed the police that she harmed herself purposely to support her false statements regarding the kidnapping.
In August 2020, police confronted her with their evidence that her abduction claims were a fabrication and the entire story was a pile of lies. But later, in an interaction with the media, instead of being sorry for her self-made kidnapping story, she continued to make further false statements about her kidnappers.
Later in 2022, she was arrested for making false statements to a federal law enforcement officer and engaging in mail fraud. Finally, in April 2022, she was formally charged by the US police and was sentenced to 18 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. She was also ordered to pay $310,000 in restitution for losses incurred by the sheriff and by the California Victim Compensation Board and the FBI.
Later on 29th Sept, 2023, she was released from the prison but never explained her motives for making such a horrifying kidnapping story. Now the main question which arises is, where she is now? In April 2022, Keith filed for divorce, and now he has full custody of his two children.
Upon her release, Sherri is only allowed to meet the kids under supervision for just 1 hour, as mentioned in a local newspaper. Now she has turned 41 and, based on recent reports, she lives with her new boyfriend, a widowed auto dealer, around 60 miles from Redding in Orland, California.
